Thank you, Kathryn, for this--as always--deep and thoughtful post. It has taken me some days to sit down to read--and really sit with--the last one you shared, which ncluded Chris's tribute. I benefitted from a little bourbon to go with and to help soften the words as I read them--or at least their impact as they landed.
I won't be able to tune into the ceremony live but I do look forward to watching it later.
Thank you for keeping us all posted even as you must be trying to keep it all together.
It's hard to recognize the reality myself. While I met Chris post Navy days (although one of my very first introductions to his past life was your retirement by Zoom), I've enjoyed going through old pictures for the slideshow, looking through a box of Navy metals I stumbled upon in his tool chest in the garage, and planning the military honors portion of the service. It's given me a little glimpse of another side of him. Chris told me close to his passing that he felt very lucky to have had the life he did. All his travels, all the people, and all the experiences made for a very full and rich life that most will never encounter. You are one of those people and many of those experiences.
This is profound in so many ways! Your tapestry of prose is beautiful.
And what an unknowing gift Abi's friend extended through her outreach.
Thank you for sharing and much love!

John,
It's hard to recognize the reality myself. Please stay in touch.
Much love,
Kathryn
